12 Of The Funniest Moments From F1 Lockdown

With F1 on hiatus for over three months, a number of drivers decided to go down the Lando Norris route and spend their time messing around on sims and streaming together on Twitch.

Now, we’re not saying we’re glad that the F1 season was delayed, but you can’t deny that this aspect has been a good thing. It’s not only given us more of an insight into the lives and personalities of drivers like George Russell, Charles Leclerc, and Alex Albon, but also provided us with some utterly hilarious moments. Here are 12 of the funniest.

One day, while streaming Fortnite, Charles Leclerc donned a banana costume that a fan had sent him after he said he’d previously said he liked the banana character skin.

One of the many great things about sim racing is that you can race pretty much anything. The drivers took that mantra to the extreme and had a go at racing lawnmowers, and it was exactly as chaotic as you’d expect.

For some reason, Alex Albon made a really odd noise during a race on Assetto Corsa Competizione. The noise was funny in itself, but the tears of laughter from Leclerc and Norris afterwards really ramp up the levels of hilarity.

With streaming allowing us more of an insight into the personalities of some of the drivers, it’s been great to see the normally quiet and more reserved Albon coming out of his shell – especially when he’s getting angry at George Russell.

Euro Truck Simulator is nice chill way to enjoy a bit of virtual driving. The last thing you expect is someone to drive up to you and play this version of the F1 theme.

While hosting a charity stream for the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund, Norris said that if he reached $10,000 in donations, he’d shave his head. Guess what? He had to shave his head.

Our very own Matt Gallagher got to race alongside Leclerc as his teammate during Veloce Esports ‘Not the… GP’. Charles was right in the middle of praising him when, with perfect timing, Matty completely bottled it.

Shortly after the announcement that Carlos Sainz would join Ferrari next year, Norris jumped into Leclerc’s Twitch chat to tell him exactly what he thought about it.

The good stuff wasn’t only happening on Twitch, as proved by Daniel Ricciardo (who else?) deciding to share his parkour skills with the world.

Leclerc was so impressed with the performance of golfer Ian Poulter that he announced a very unusual method of showing his appreciation…

Who would have thought in 2020 we’d be watching Max Verstappen fall down a ladder while Lando Norris begged him not to? Nope, us neither, but here we are, thanks to this moment when the pair of them were playing Warzone together.

One day, Leclerc’s girlfriend popped out for a while, but forget her keys to the apartment. She messaged him to come and open the door but Charles was too engrossed in streaming, so she had to subscribe to his Twitch channel in order to get him to see a message and come and let her in.
