Watch The Awesome 130R Corner Onboard From 1989 To 2013

Here’s a fantastic compilation of onboards through arguably Suzuka’s most famous corner – 130R.

From the downshifts and throttle lifts of the early 90s, the speed continually ramps up (the Jacques Villeneuve clip from 1998 is truly terrifying), and gives a great impression of the increase in grip and downforce of F1 cars over a decade or so until they were almost taking it flat.

The corner was reprofiled for the 2003 race following Allan McNish’s horrible crash there the year before, making it much easier to take flat out. Whilst it’s still a brilliant corner, the wider radius and tarmac runoff just take away that extra something that made it really special.
