Pole-sitter Konsta Lappalainen stalled on the grid and was hit from behind by Mikhail Belov. With both cars damaged and out of the race the safety car was deployed to clean up the mess. You’d think that would mean an end to any more incidents, but oh no.
Belov’s car was being towed away (with the driver still in it), but with the front suspension broken and the grass being rather soft, well, this happened:
You don’t see that every day! A similar thing happened to Taki Inoue at Monaco in 1995. He was being towed back to the pits following a practice session when the safety car (out doing some demonstration laps) smashed into Inoue’s Footwork, flipping it over. He never did have much luck with course vehicles…
