A Wet Pit Lane Caused Havoc In The DTM Race At The Hungaroring

Three people have been sent to hospital with leg injuries following some nasty accidents in the pit lane during the Hungaroring round of the DTM

Rain started falling in the early stages of the race, bringing drivers into the pits for a switch to wet tyres.

Now, slick tyres on a slippery, wet, concrete pit apron is a treacherous combination and unfortunately, three drivers got caught out. Lucas Auer locked up and ran into the wall of the pit garage, pinning some marshals between the car and the wall. Bruno Spengler also slid into his mechanics, whilst Edoardo Mortara knocked his crew’s pit gantry over.

With all the chaos the race was red-flagged so that medical crews could attend to the injured people and unfortunately three people had to be flown to hospital. A statement from the series read:

“An injured marshal has severe leg injuries. Two further persons have medium-level injuries. None of the injured persons is in critical conditions, they are all being transported to hospital.”
