When we said the cars were smokin’ hot at Barcelona, we didn’t mean it literally. Fernando Alonso’s final day of the pre-season shakedown got off to an interesting start after the Alpine had to stop on track due to an issue with his car.
It all looked so promising for the Spaniard, who had just topped the timing sheets with a 1:21.242. Yet minutes later, his efforts went up in smoke after he came to a halt in the final sector and brought out the red flag.
The marshals were out in force to extinguish the fiery A522, and an unharmed Alonso and car safety returned to the team’s garage.
Although the cause of the issue hasn’t been confirmed yet, the French team reported on social media that Alonso asked to stop the car at Turn 13 due to a loss of pressure.
