Alpine Boss Marcin Budkowski Has Left The Team With Immediate Effect

Now the jigsaw pieces are finally falling into place. Following the departure of Aston Martin’s long-time Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer last week, Alpine have just announced the immediate departure of their Executive Director Marcin Budkowski.

The Polish engineer, who previously worked for Ferrari, McLaren and as the head of F1’s technical department, joined the French team in 2017, overseeing the day-to-day running. He remained in the management as they transitioned to Alpine last season and saw the return of two-time champion Fernando Alonso.

In a statement, Budkowski said: “I truly enjoyed being part of the leadership team of Renault then Alpine F1 Team, working with such a talented and dedicated group of people. I will be watching the Teams’ progress fondly in the seasons to come.”

Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi added: “I would like to thank Marcin Budkowski for his commitment and contribution to the team’s results over the last four years. The team is fully focused on getting the car ready for the first race in Bahrain and deliver a step beyond in performance.”

Off the back of their fifth-place in the Constructors’ Championship, Rossi will be temporarily taking charge as they search for a new boss. Although we doubt they’ll have to look far, we’ve heard Szafnauer is on the market!

Are you surprised to see Marcin Budkowski leave? Let us know in the comments below.
