We’ve seen some strange things make their way onto race tracks in the past (fans, lizards, cats), but this has to be one of the most unusual yet.
In FP3 at Yas Marina an umbrella – yes, an umbrella – suddenly appeared on the apex at turn eight.

The VSC came out for a marshal to retrieve it, something I bet he didn’t think he’d be doing at the start of the weekend! Still, at least he was nice and shaded on the way back to his post.
To be fair to the umbrella, it absolutely NAILED the apex ☂️

Actually, is it an umbrella or is it a parasol? Is there a difference? Does a parasol become an umbrella when it rains? These aren’t the sort of existential questions you expect to ask yourself during a Formula 1 weekend!
