Billy Monger Has Been Officially Nominated For A Laureus Sports Award

Billy Monger’s racing career took a tragic turn earlier this year when he lost both of his lower legs in an horrific Formula 4 accident at Donington Park.

The motorsport community pulled together for him, raising well over £800,000, and despite his life-changing injuries Billy hasn’t let things get him down. Just a few months after his crash he was back behind the wheel of a racing car and is aiming to compete at Le Mans in a few years.

He was also a guest of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes at the British Grand Prix this year, with Lewis and many other F1 drivers keen to say just how much they admire him.

Billy’s attitude and determination is immensely heart-warming, and his story attracted the attention of the Laureus Sports Awards. Throughout the month of September fans were asked to vote on a number of moments; with the ones with the most votes going onto the shortlist for the ‘Best Sporting Moment’ category.

Unsurprisingly Billy got an absolute shedload of votes and won the September round of nominations, which means he’ll go through to the final round of voting next year.

He’ll go up against the four other winners of the monthly votes for the title of Best Sporting Moment at the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards, and also get to attend the ceremony.

The ultimate winner will also be decided by public vote and when it’s open, we’ll be sure to let you know.
