The #66 Ferrari was already having a bad day as gearbox troubles in the ELMS season finale at Estoril saw their championship hopes start to slip away, but then things went from bad to worse.
After a lengthy pitstop which it was hoped would solve the problem, Rob Smith was cruising around back to the pits when he got an almighty whack from the side. Michael Guasch in the #2 United Autosports car lost control of his LMP3 Ligier under braking and collided with the Ferrari in a bizarre crash which all but ended the already-slimming title hopes of the JMW Motorsport Ferrari crew. The car was recovered to the pits but the damage was too great and they were forced into retirement.
