Carlos Sainz Sr Made A Medical Helicopter Do A U-Turn At The Dakar Rally

Honestly, what is going on at the Dakar Rally this year?!

First, we had F1 driver Carlos Sainz touch his dad’s car and almost get him penalised. Then the FIA found a co-driver wearing a watch he wasn’t supposed to, and he almost got disqualified. Now, Carlos Sainz Sr is back making headlines with a strange scenario involving a medical helicopter 😅

Carlos crashed his Audi RS Q E-Tron E2 again, this time on Tuesday’s stage. Rolling his machine just a few kilometres into the event, he flipped it the right way round after help from local spectators.

However, the shunt hurt Carlos, who complained of pain in his torso after the incident. As a result, he was put into a medical helicopter to receive attention at a hospital nearby. All sounds pretty standard protocol. Right?

But, midway through the flight, Sainz Sr asked the helicopter pilot to turn around and take him back to his car so he could wait for the Audi race assistance truck. He was clearly not done and wanted to keep racing in the Dakar Rally!

Nevertheless, he had to abandon the timed stage and has now announced that he’s had to drop out of Dakar.

This Dakar Rally is certainly providing us with some strange stories 😂

  • Jr was not almost penalized for touching the car, he was almost penalized for being within 1km of the car. Your own story on this quoted the rule in question – it said nothing about touching the car.
