AlphaTauri might have dropped him at the end of the 2020 season, but Daniil Kvyat will remain in the F1 paddock this year as he’s signed a new contract with Alpine as their Reserve Driver. Things you love to see!
Despite having a strong end to the 2020 F1 season, Kvyat was replaced at AlphaTauri by F2 superstar Yuki Tsunoda and left without a drive for this season.
Although this new role isn’t the same as having a full-time F1 seat, the 26-year-old will play a vital part in Alpine’s first season in the championship. With a hugely impressive racing resume to his name, Kvyat’s expertise will be a welcomed addition.
“I am very excited to join the Alpine F1 Team family,” Kvyat said about his new job role.

“The team has achieved some great results in the past year and is very technologically advanced. The development has been strong, and I am aiming to contribute to this positive trend.”
Kvyat’s signing means he replaces fellow Russian Sergey Sirotkin, the Renault reserve for the previous two seasons.
“In a pandemic, it’s important for us to have a strong back up [driver],” Laurent Rossi, Alpine CEO, said about the news. “Daniil has proven that he is a very quick and reliable driver in very difficult conditions.”
Guanyu Zhou continues in his role as the team’s Test Driver.
