If you’re reading this, welcome to the Multiverse. Here, Max Verstappen is no longer a dominant force and gets knocked out of qualifying by a rookie. Wild.
Verstappen has struggled with the balance of his Red Bull throughout the Singapore GP weekend so far, and he paid the price during qualifying when he failed to make it into the top 10.
Ironically, the man who knocked him out in Q2 was Liam Lawson, who is replacing Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri, Red Bull’s sister team. In just his third-ever F1 qualifying, he made it through to Q3 at the expense of Verstappen.
Max has dominated this season, and rightly so. He’s a generational talent, and by no means does one “off” day take the record-breaking achievements of this year away from him. But, every now and again, you have to give someone else a turn, you know?
Fans were quite happy to see other drivers fight for pole position – here are some of our favourite reactions to that thrilling qualifying session.
