Following a pretty dismal winter test, things have gone from bad to catastrophic for McLaren as star driver Fernando Alonso will be forced to miss out the season opener at Melbourne following medical advice, according to a statement from McLaren on Monday afternoon. This comes as a result of the concussion he suffered during testing at Catalunya more than a week ago.
Kevin Magnussen, who raced for McLaren last year before being dropped after Alonso was signed for the team, will fulfil his duties as a reserve driver and fill his seat. Magnussen also filled in for Alonso during the final test and is yet to announce any plans to race elsewhere in 2015.
Following medical advice, Fernando will not be competing in the Australian GP. Full statement here: http://t.co/3CtLnbh7dT

Alonso will be looking to return for the second round of the season at Malaysia, two weeks after the Australian Grand Prix, provided he is fit enough to do so.
