First Lap Formula 4 Clash Turns Into Big Multi-Car Shunt

When you combine the nature of the Red Bull Ring track in Austria and the young, eager-to-impress drivers of ADAC Formula 4, it’s clear a first-lap crash is going to be inevitable.

We didn’t have to wait long to find out if that would be the case, with a multi-car shunt on the first lap of race one involving around a third of the entire field.

It was all sparked by Andreas Estner spinning around Fabio Scherer into the fourth corner on the opening tour of the Red Bull Ring.

With cars slowing down and facing the wrong way, numerous other drivers were unsurprisingly caught up in the incident as the F4 machines scattered.

Some of them actually picked up pretty heavy damage, one even looked like the whole rear section had come off. It brought out the red flag due to the graveyard of F4 cars sat on the circuit.
