Nicholas Latifi had a reasonable season with DAMS in Formula 2 last year. He finished fifth in the championship, was on the podium nine times, and took one victory – he might have had another had he not been distracted by his mirror falling off. No, really.
The 22-year-old Canadian has already been around Formula 1 for a bit, having tested for both Mercedes and Renault in 2017. Now he’s joined Force India for the 2018 season as the test and reserve driver.
He’ll do some simulator work back at the factory and will also get to take part in a few free practice sessions at races, though the team hasn’t said how many he’ll do yet.
Latifi said of his opportunity:
“Force India is a team that has shown constant improvement for the last few years and I’m proud to become a part of one of the success stories of Formula One. I am eager to show the team what I can do and help them as they continue to close the gap to the front of the grid.”
