The 21st century has been pretty kind to racing drivers called Sebastian (or Sébastien). Sébastien Bourdais won four Champ Car titles, Sebastian Vettel has won four F1 championships, Sébastien Buemi is a WEC and Formula E champion, and Sébastien Loeb won a record nine WRC titles.
After Loeb’s retirement another Sébastien took up the job of dominating the World Rallying scene, as Sébastien Ogier has won the last four titles and is leading the 2017 championship too. Last month he followed in the footsteps of his fellow successful Sebs and got a taste of F1 machinery.
Ogier got around 60 miles of F1 experience under his belt at the Red Bull Ring, where he drove the 2011 title-winning Red Bull RB7 with help from the expert eye of David Coulthard. Despite a bit of an off it looks like he had fun (who wouldn’t?!) and said the whole experience was like a dream come true.
After his test run Ogier said:
“One dream came true for me today. It was awesome and, of course, a big discovery. It was so different to what I have ever driven before. It was so much fun and actually this car is super quick but also you feel quickly very comfortable in it.
“I’m 33-years-old. As a kid Ayrton Senna was my idol and, of course, I dreamed to have the chance to one day try this kind of car. For a racing driver to have fun you need to be fast, and a Formula One is the fastest car you can drive so, of course, every racing driver wants to feel that one day.”
It’s always awesome to see drivers from other series getting a run in F1 cars, especially when it’s someone as experienced and successful as Sébastien Ogier.
Are there any drivers who you’d like to see get a taste of F1 machinery? Let us know in the comments!
