In probably the worst kept secret since Haas F1 Team’s other driver signing, Romain Grosjean, Esteban Gutierrez has finally been confirmed at the American team for 2016.
Gene Haas had already declared he wanted a Ferrari reserve in his driver line-up and when the team revealed they were going to announce their second driver in Mexico, it didn’t take a genius to work out who it was going to be.
“This is an excellent opportunity that builds on my time with Ferrari and I will make the most of it,” Gutierrez said. “To have a race seat in a competitive car with Ferrari power is very special, and I appreciate the faith he has in me. I trust we’ll be able to achieve great things together.”
Gutierrez previously raced for Sauber in both 2013 and 2014 but is probably best remembered for being majorly Maldonado’d at last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
He did get his revenge at Silverstone though…
