Rio Haryanto will become Indonesia’s first Formula One driver after Manor announced the GP2 winner alongside fellow new signing Pascal Wehrlein.
There’d been rumours of Haryanto joining the team all winter and now he’s managed to secure himself the seat, thanks to a bucket-load of financial backing from the state.
While money has secured the Indonesian an F1 drive (understandable for a team like Manor) Haryanto did enjoy his best year in the GP2 Series last year, taking three wins on his way to fourth in the championship.
There had been rumours that Haryanto would share the second seat with former drivers Will Stevens and Alexander Rossi but the Brit and the American will miss out now the F1 grid is complete.
Here’s the full 2016 grid:
Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg
Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen
Valtteri Bottas, Felipe Massa
Daniil Kvyat, Daniel Ricciardo
Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg
Kevin Magnussen, Jolyon Palmer
Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz Jr
Felipe Nasr, Marcus Ericsson
Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button
Pascal Wehrlein, Rio Haryanto
Romain Grosjean, Esteban Gutierrez
