Here's Jacques Villeneuve Absolutely Thrashing His Williams Around Spa

The Canadian gave it absolutely everything in qualifying for the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix

Jacques Villeneuve had no chance of defending his title in 1998 as the Williams FW20 was far from a good car. At that point of his career, Jacques still had plenty of commitment and determination - one thing you couldn’t accuse him of was not trying.

That was especially evident with this balls to the wall qualifying lap at Spa, where he wrung the neck of his car on his final run, resulting in a spectacular (if not especially fast) lap.

Despite all the sliding he was only a couple of tenths down on his best and ended up starting the race from sixth.

In the race he managed to avoid that massive pile-up after making a mega start to go from sixth to second by the first corner. He wasn’t quite as good at the restart, though, and span out of fourth place on lap 17.
