Force India appeared to have had their 2017 line-up set after finally confirming Sergio Perez at the team for next season but now it appears that a shock move could be on the cards.
According to multiple sources, Nico Hulkenberg is on his way to Renault with a deal now close to being done.
The French manufacturer returned to Formula 1 this year taking over the Enstone-based Lotus team and despicably firing Pastor Malonado in the process. But despite heading into this season with a brand-new line-up of Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer, Renault are after big names for 2017.
Stoffel Vandoorne, Carlos Sainz and Valtteri Bottas were all targets for the team but were not available.
With Hulkenberg’s deal already in the advanced stages, further bad news for K-Mag and Palmer is that it’s likely that Frenchman Esteban Ocon will be at Renault next year now he’s had experience racing in F1 for Manor.
