Good news everyone! A classic track could be returning to the F1 calendar next year. Bad news everyone! It could come at the expense of Monza.
Monza’s place on the F1 calendar has been under threat for sometime now and according to Motorsport.com, Imola has signed the contract with Bernie Ecclestone to host next year’s Italian Grand Prix, not the theatre of speed that has hosted the event every year but once since 1950. Ironically, the only time Monza missed the Italian Grand Prix it moved to Imola in 1980, so history could well repeat itself again.
It’s not all doom and gloom though as the Automobile Club d’Italia still needs to give Ecclestone the all clear before the switch in venues is made.
So should the Italian Grand Prix stay at Monza, or is it time for Imola to make a return?
