F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg has announced he is entering his own team into Extreme E next year, following in the footsteps of his F1 rival Lewis Hamilton. The battle continues!

Some say the Hamilton versus Rosberg battle was one of the greatest rivalries in modern motorsport, and now this will continue further as their two Extreme E teams will be racing against each other in the new off-road electric championship.

Rosberg and Hamilton won’t be competing against each other behind the wheel, unfortunately, but both do have existing sustainability projects away from their racing careers.

Extreme E, which is on track to launch next year, sees all-electric SUVs competing in remote areas around the world and has been founded by the guy behind Formula E. The series will host five races in its first year, and visit parts of the world worst affected by the climate crisis including rainforests and glaciers.

It’s generated plenty of interest already, with a long line of drivers wanting to get involved as well as teams from the likes of Andretti, Veloce Racing, and of course Lewis Hamilton’s ‘Team X44’.

Nico’s race team, known as ‘Rosberg Xtreme Racing’, is an evolution of Team Rosberg which was founded in 1994 by Nico’s father, 1982 F1 World Champion Keke Rosberg.

“The series represents an amazing opportunity to not only drive awareness but also inspire action in the fight against climate change – the single biggest threat to our planet today.

“Since retiring from F1 I have dedicated my career to sustainable technologies so to be able to combine these endeavours with my passion for racing is incredibly fulfilling.”

With both Lewis and Nico competing together again, we certainly hope a Hamilton versus Rosberg 2.0 is on the cards!
