In case you haven’t heard, there’s been some pretty well sourced rumours recently that Carlos Sainz junior will be joining Renault as early as the Malaysian Grand Prix, meaning this weekend could be Jolyon Palmer’s last race in F1 for a while.
Despite that though Palmer is still confident he’ll be driving for the rest of the season.
“I have a contract,” said the Renault driver. “I’ve got seven more races this year. There have been suggestions for 35 races that I might be not in the next one, or in the next few.
“I’ve got seven races to do, I’ll be in Malaysia, I’ll be racing until Abu Dhabi.”
As for 2018, it’s not something he’s worrying too much about yet.
“I don’t care too much to talk about it. I know what is happening, I think there will be an announcement probably some point in the future, not too long.
“I am excited for the future, I haven’t thought too much, but I am excited for what is to come.”
Excited for what is to come, hey? Palmer to Mercedes confirmed.
