Little over 24 hours after the horrible scenes at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, it has been announced that British driver Justin Wilson has died due to the injuries he sustained in the race.
Wilson, who won seven IndyCar/Champ Car races in his career leaves his wife Julia, and his two young daughters. It was the first fatal accident in an IndyCar race since the great Dan Wheldon passed away at the 2011 championship finale.
I raced with Justin as far back as 1989 in Karting and remember his smile was infectious, such a lovely guy. #RIPJustin

Wilson, in addition to his 2003 stint in F1, also raced in endurance racing – which included one attempt at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, V8 Supercars and most recently a one-off race in the inaugural FIA Formula E championship. He is most famous for his IndyCar stint however, where he finished runner up in the 2006 and 2007 Champ Car seasons.
IndyCar confirmed shortly after the announcement that the championship finale at Sonoma Raceway will go ahead as scheduled this Sunday.
