F1 helmet designs are pretty much locked in for a whole season because of the current rule restrictions.

So, opening up a competition that gives fans the chance to design a helmet that’ll be worn all through F1 2017 is a pretty big deal.

That’s made an even bigger deal when it’s Hamilton’s helmet that needs designing. Cue thousands of Hamilton fans frantically trying to think up the best helmet livery they can.

The Mercedes driver has given one lucky fan the chance to design the helmet he’ll race with throughout 2017.

In typical Hamilton style, he posted a blank helmet template on Instagram, saying he’s “on the look out for a dope new layout” that evolves the current theme and features of his helmet.

Here’s hoping for a comeback of the yellow helmet. Although, Hamilton says it has to incorporate the candy apple red from his existing design somewhere.

He’s going to pick the best one and will meet the winner in person at one of the races this year, presenting them with a full-size, signed replica of the helmet.

It’s a pretty cool opportunity for avid Hamilton fans and keen designers to get their creative juices flowing and make a “dope” helmet livery that’ll be used by the Brit.
