M-Sport’s Ford Fiesta Has Beefed Up For WRC 2017

The latest 2017 World Rally Championship beast has been unveiled and the new Ford Fiesta WRC looks ridiculously aggressive.

Following on from the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC launch last week, another mean-looking 2017 WRC beast has been uncovered ahead of the Monte Carlo Rally in January.

M-Sport has officially unleashed next year’s Ford Fiesta WRC beast and it looks as aggressive, sharp and sporty as we all hoped for.

Based on the new road-going 2017 Fiesta, the bulky air intakes, huge wheel arches and swooping aero of the rally beast makes the i20 Coupe WRC look a little bit tame, to be honest.

Big changes to aero and engine rules for 2017 look set to make the cars even quicker, more exciting to watch and – as we’ve got a glimpse of – awesome to look at.

The M-Sport Fiesta WRC hasn’t yet been launched in its full livery yet, but that just gives us a great look at the insane aero package, huge wing and striking design of the new car.

The Fiesta WRC has racked up an impressive 6,392 kilometres (around 4,000 miles) of testing and even Sebastien Ogier, four-time world champion and now out of contract after VW’s exit, has had a go.

Power is up to 380bhp from the 1.6-litre Ecoboost-powered engine, thanks to a larger 36mm restrictor under the bodywork. There’s also a fresh six-speed sequential gearbox.

M-Sport is hoping the new Fiesta WRC will take it to the top step of the podium, against competition from Hyundai, Citroen and Toyota.
