Qualifying Race At Macau Starts With Huge Crash Because Macau

Several drivers didn’t even make it past the second corner of the Macau street track in the Formula 3 qualifying race, after a chaotic opening 30 seconds.

It got off to a clean start and run through the first left-hand kink, before the pack of cars arrived at the Mandarin bend.

The super-quick right-hander caught out a few drivers, who hit the wall on the exit and forced others to duck out of the way in avoidance.

But further back, Ye Hong Li – who was one of drivers to be caught out and hit the wall in practice – suffered a big shunt when he ran into the back of Daiki Sasaki’s car.

It was a very nasty crash, with Ye Hong Li’s car going over the back of Sasaki’s. It climbed over the rollhoop and just clipped Sasaki’s helmet, although he was able to continue and finish the race after pitting to fit a new rear wing.

Ye Hong Li’s car ended up bouncing off the barrier a couple of times, before coming to rest on the right-hand side of the straight. The crash brought out the safety car.

Formula E racer Antonio Felix da Costa ended up going on to win the qualifying race and take pole for the main event on Sunday, beating Callum Ilot.
