Why did the chicken cross the road? It’s not only an age-old joke, but a question Marcus Ericsson will be asking himself after surely the most bizarre incident so far this year.
Ericsson was cycling in Thailand in preparation for the Malaysian Grand Prix and crashed into the daredevil chicken at a speed of 45km/h. The Sauber driver came off his bike and had to be treated for cuts to his arms and shoulder. In spite of his injuries he will be fine to race this weekend in surely the most heroic comeback since Niki Lauda in 1976.
The chicken (which Ericsson said was ‘big’) survived the incident but as the pictures on his Twitter show, it doesn’t look like the bike did.
Hitting a (big) chicken doing 45km/h is not to recommend 🙈 but I'm all patched up and ready for the weekend 👍🏻😎 #ME9 pic.twitter.com/npZmatpOo6

And believe it or not the chicken kept on running!! Not sure what they feed the chickens in Thailand because that was a big hit! 💪🏻🐣
