Blancpain GT returned to action at the Misano circuit but the qualifying race didn’t get off to the smoothest of starts after a crash at Turn 6.
Under darkness and with only headlights lighting up the track, spinning cars in the midfield were always going to be tough to avoid for some of the backmarkers.
Several cars sustained major damage and there were some terrifying impacts as the fast GT machines smashed into others.
The cause of the accident remains unknown but the Blancpain GT series claimed up to eight cars were involved in the mayhem, with Sportscar365 thankfully reporting all drivers involved were OK.
That’s a big relief after such a scary, fast-paced multi-car pile-up. The accident brought out the red flag, with Maxi Buhk and Franck Perera winning the race in their No.83 Mercedes AMG GT3.
