This weekend will see Jenson Button make his 300th start in F1, and to celebrate McLaren have done something properly awesome: they’ve turned their motorhome into a traditional English pub for the weekend.
With McLaren being McLaren there’s an incredible attention to detail. It has a proper pub name, The Dog and Button, complete with its own sign. Inside there are specially branded coasters and snacks, classic English crisps and bar games, and photos along the walls of highlights of Buttons career.
Perhaps best of all are the three specially branded beers – ‘300’, ‘Somerset Scrumper’ and ‘Ol’ Brawny’ – which carries the tagline ‘Brewed & bottled for one year only’. Who knew Ron would approve his team to have such a sense of humour?!
Drivers and media from up and down the paddock have been popping along to their new local to enjoy the atmosphere and have a beer with Jenson, which I’m sure reflects brilliantly on Heineken’s “If you drive, never drink” campaign. Who cares though, because it’s awesome to see the F1 paddock having a bit of fun and celebrating one of its most popular drivers. Well done McLaren!
Lets just hope Jenson actually manages to start the race on Sunday. If he doesn’t, does that mean McLaren will have to set it up again at Suzuka?
