Mercedes technical director James Allison puts last year's W09 next to the new W10 to highlight the rule changes for 2019
Surely we all know the basic 2019 rules changes by now, right? Wider and simpler front wings, larger deeper rear wings, smaller bargeboards - you know the drill.
This video is a great opportunity to not only see the differences, but to also understand what the effects of those changes are. Allison explains how the new wings alter the airflow around the car and what that should mean for the racing. It’s typically fascinating stuff.
He makes a great point about how last year’s car already looks obsolete. It’s a funny old thing, F1. Look back at cars from 25, 15, or even five years ago and they look so simple - in some cases almost crude - and yet at the time, they were seen as cutting edge, futuristic designs.
It’s crazy to think that one day, cars like the W10 will end up being viewed in a similar way…
