Nico Hulkenberg Goes Back In Time To Drive Classic Renault F1 Cars – WTF1

Nico Hulkenberg Goes Back In Time To Drive Classic Renault F1 Cars

With Renault celebrating 40 years since it debuted in F1 this year, it teamed up with Canal+ to take Hulkenberg back in time to 1977.

Dressed in rather questionable retro outfits, the funny video shows Hulkenberg arriving at the Paul Ricard circuit to meet up with F1 icon Prost.

Hulkenberg then got the chance to drive the monstrous 1977 Renault RS01 and then swapped with former Super Aguri F1 star Franck Montagny (remember him?) to give the beautiful 1983 Renault RE40 a go.

The RS01 debuted towards the end of the 1977 season and was Renault’s first car as a F1 constructor, and was also the first in the sport to have a turbocharged engine.

It wasn’t all that competitive, but the RE40 certainly was – taking Prost himself to four wins during the year, second in the drivers’ standings and runner-up for Renault in the constructors’ championship.

With Renault celebrating 40 years since it arrived in F1, it’s the perfect excuse to let the classic cars loose on a race track with current and former drivers behind the wheel.
