Nico Rosberg reached the peak of his career when he ran into internet sensation Salt Bae at the Laureus Sports Awards.
‘Salt Bae’ (real name Nusret Gökçe) is a Turkish chef who shot to internet fame when a video was posted of him extravagantly seasoning a steak. He was at the awards mingling with various sports personalities, including Nico Rosberg.
Rosberg was at the ceremony to collect the ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ award (which was presented to him by Emerson Fittipaldi) for his performance in winning the World Championship in 2016. Kinda weird to reward someone who has retired for ‘breaking through’, but there you go!
F1 drivers usually do pretty well in this category in with Ricciardo, Button, Hamilton and Montoya all having won it in the past, whilst Schumacher and Vettel have previously won the Sportsman of the Year award.
The Laureus Awards are a pretty big deal in sport and Nico was thrilled to have won, saying they’re like the sporting version of the Oscars.
