The new Formula Thunder 5000 car is coming along nicely: check out this great onboard footage from a test session at the epic Phillip Island circuit. Just listen to that 5.0-litre V8 growl!
Three-time Australian F3 champion Tim Macrow did 70 laps during the test with a best time of 1:24.5, which is already just a few tenths away from the outright circuit record, with apparently plenty more still to come as the car gets developed.
The series is a re-imagining of the Formula 5000 series that was hugely popular in the 1970s, especially in Australia, and judging by this clip the cars look likely to be just as much of a hit with both drivers and fans. The series is due to kick off towards the end of next year – we can’t wait!
