What’s better than an onboard video of Eau Rouge? Twenty onboard videos of Eau Rouge! This compilation shows footage of arguably Formula One’s most famous corner from 1991 to 2013.
All the clips come from different sessions of a weekend so its quite difficult to make direct comparisons, but what’s amazing is how much the track changes and how the demands of the corner change as the cars evolve. Mika Hakkinen in 1998 looks especially terrifying, and when it’s wet or when cars are in traffic you can really see how much commitment it requires from the drivers, serving as a reminder of just how legendary this piece of track is (as if anyone could ever forget!).
In recent years it seems to have become easier and drivers have found other corners on the track more challenging. Here’s hoping the turbo engines and reduced downforce put Eau Rouge back at the top of every drivers list.
