Oscar Piastri Just Dropped An Ultimate Bombshell About The Alpine Contract Update

OMG, THIS IS ABOUT TO GET JUICY. Oscar Piastri has declared that he will not be driving for Alpine next year, only two hours after the team said he was! Whaaaaaat 🤯

In a statement shared on his social media, the F2 champ said that without his agreement, Alpine have announced that he will be racing for them and that this is not true.

“I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year,” Oscar shared.

“This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023.”

Just when you think it isn’t dramatic enough, he added: “I will not be driving for Alpine next year.”

OOOFT. So does that mean he’s got a contract with another team? Perhaps a McLaren deal which is being heavily suggested, or maybe at Williams?

We’re just sitting on the edge of our seats, waiting for an update.

WE LOVE SILLY SEASON!!

  • Oscar is the kind of guy to ruin all his leverage at the worst time.

he should’ve announced he hasn’t made a final decision on next season.

saying he has ruled out Alpine means he either needs to hope williams wants him over sargent or that a current driver will go to alpine and he gets that drivers spot.

I know everyone is thinking mclaren but is danny ric really going to leave its a huge risk on oscars part.

I’m sure there is more he knows than we do; the grapevine has it that Webber’s been wheeling-dealing, with Danny Ric in the loop. That’s the only explanation for the total brashness of this statement; the confidence that it’ll all been taken care of.

A long shot theory here, but what if his snub of Alpine is caused by an unannounced driver lineup change from Mercedes? If you think about it, the only other team that won’t be a downgrade from Alpine would be McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes. Ferrari and Red Bull have their drivers locked for next season. McLaren is pretty much a lateral move, and I would argue that in the long run, being with a factory works team would probably be better than being with a customer team like McLaren. Mercedes does have their drivers locked for next season, but if a certain seven-time world champion had informed them that he’s going to retire by the end of the season, it’s possible that the team is trying to get the hottest young talent out there. They’d missed out on Max Verstappen a few years ago and scooping Piastri now would be in their best long-term interest.

  • If Piastry doesn’t have a signed contract with another F1 team right now, he could have burned his bridges in F1, with his almost defiant statement on the Alpine statement.
