Piastri Has Finally Broken His Social Media Silence After Being Confirmed At McLaren

Oscar Piastri has finally broken his silence following his, now infamous, tweet where he told the world that he wouldn’t be driving for Alpine in 2023 – sharing his thoughts after the ruling from the Contract Recognition Board means that he will drive for McLaren from next season.

Piastri posted a video on social media addressing the news, following the announcement that he will drive alongside Lando Norris at McLaren from 2023, in place of fellow Aussie, Daniel Ricciardo.

“Hi everyone, the news is finally out, I’ll be joining the Formula 1 grid in 2023 with McLaren. I am super excited to be joining the grid and with such a prestigious team like McLaren. I have no doubt [that] it’s a great place to start my career.

Piastri took the time to thank his family and Alpine, for which he was a part of their driver academy since 2020, for their support on his journey to Formula 1 and the caption “#OP81” revealed that he is planning to race in F1 under the number 81.

“And yeah, it’s been a long road up until this point, I’ve been racing for 12 years and this was my dream from the very beginning. So I just wanted to thank everybody that supported me throughout my journey, including my colleges at Alpine for the past few years and also my family in particular who have made a significant contribution to supporting my career from the very beginning and yeah, I can’t wait to be representing papaya!

“I’ll be doing my best to drive as quickly as possible and get some good results, so looking forward to working with the team, working alongside Lando and can’t wait to see you all soon. Thank you.

Are you excited to see what Piastri can do next season?
