Woah. Quick, go and check your coat pockets or down the back of the sofa for some spare cash, as this incredible piece of F1 history has just come up for sale. We’re not kidding.
The 2019 Toro Rosso, driven by both Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly, can now become yours… if you’re willing to sell all your internal organs, maybe.
Okay, so it might be financially out of reach for most of us, but we can dream, right? There isn’t actually a price ticket attached to the car, which is standard practice and is normally enquiry only, but we’d imagine it’s going to cost a little bit more than our current bank balance.
The car itself is an original with a rolling chassis and has some serious F1 history behind it. As well as being the last Toro Rosso before the rebrand to AlphaTauri in 2020, it also helped Pierre Gasly achieve his first F1 podium during the incredible 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Alex Albon also drove this car for the first eight races of the year before his promotion to Red Bull Racing. Madness.
Now, if you’re not used to buying used F1 cars online, the term ‘rolling chassis’ means that there is no engine or powertrain included. Its wheels can still manoeuvre the car, but you can’t take it to a private test track and rev the nuts off it—sad times.
This is obviously done as the team doesn’t want another rival manufacturer to take it all apart and learn how they do stuff, even if this a 2019 model and a whole new F1 rule book is on its way for next year. The car is also missing the hydraulics and the ECU.
It does, however, include some interesting parts such as a full working gearbox, electrical rear wing, pedals, brakes and Pierre Gasly’s seat mould.
There’s also the steering wheels used both for travel and in the race. You’ll get a snazzy Toro Rosso car cover too. Sounds like a bargain to me.
