Now into its third season, the FIA World Rallycross Championship has already gained a reputation for unpredictable and action-packed racing. The recent round at the Estering in Germany was no exception thanks to this outrageous first corner from Kevin Eriksson to take the lead at the start of the event final – if there’s a better overtake this year, it hasn’t happened yet.
Thanks to this start Eriksson went on to win the event, his first in the top flight of World Rallycross. 2014 and 2015 champion Petter Solberg finished 2nd, but 5th place for Mattias Ekstrom was enough to secure him the title with a round to spare, adding Rallycross honours to his two DTM championships and three Race of Champions victories.
Edit: Eriksson shared the onboard view of his start on Instagram
Nope, still have no idea how that was even possible.
