Rating The 2023 F1 Liveries

That’s it. Launch season has come and gone. The countdown to the season opener in Bahrain begins. Only a few more weeks until we’re permanently dodging weekend plans and cancelling our social calendar for the next eight months. It’s been great seeing the 2023 cars make their first appearances in the world, but we’re fully ready for F1 testing so that we can see these cars on track!

Some teams have a fresh look for 2023. Others… don’t. Here’s our take on all of them!

REMINDER: liveries are subjective, so please feel free to disagree with us and let us know in the comments what your rating would be.

HAAS VF-23

Dre: “They pinched Renault’s idea of the “Burnt Banana” from a couple of years back where it looks black from the side and white on top. It’s clever, and I like it all round, and the integration of the MoneyGram red is really nice.”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 7/10
DRE’S RATING: 8/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 6/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 7/10

RED BULL RB19

Ciaran: The Red Bull livery is probably the most strongly brand-heavy car around, and I like it, but definitely don’t love it. Bring back the purple.”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 6/10
DRE’S RATING: 7.5/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 5/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 6/10

WILLIAMS FW45

Dre: “Blue’s okay, I think it goes well with the exposed carbon trend they essentially invented last year. Extra credit for the Duracell battery airflow hole being permanent!”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 7/10
DRE’S RATING: 7/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 6/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 7/10

ALFA ROMEO C43

Charley: “I am absolutely obsessed with this one, I think the candy red suits the black carbon style perfectly, but it’s not quite a 10. If I could fix anything, it would be for the two colours to blend a little bit more seamlessly.”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 9/10
DRE’S RATING: 8.5/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 10/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 6/10

ALPHATAURI AT04

Hannah: It seems like no one else agrees with me… but I’m giving AlphaTauri the 8/10 it deserves! I love the touch of red, and I think the livery looks powerful. I much prefer it to last year’s car!”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 4/10
DRE’S RATING: 5/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 8/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 4/10

MCLAREN MCL60

Charley: “Well, I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but as the only McLaren fan on this team, I need to fight for it. It’s definitely way closer to the dream design I’ve envisaged for the last few seasons. I’m still not a huge fan of the baby blue, but I can live with it. I do think this is going to change a lot of people’s opinions when it hits the track.”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 8/10
DRE’S RATING: 7/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 7/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 7/10

ASTON MARTIN AMR23

Ciaran: Not any real difference to the 2022 livery, but why change something that already looked so good?”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 8/10
DRE’S RATING: 9/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 8/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 8/10

FERRARI: SF-23

Charley: “The old-school Ferrari rear wing made this instantly 1000000x better. I don’t think you can really go wrong with red and black together, it was beautiful last year, and it’s still as stunning this season. Is it legal to marry a car? Asking for a friend.”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 9/10
DRE’S RATING: 8.5/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 10/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 9/10

MERCEDES: W14

Ciaran: I feel like there’s justification for being angry at so much blatant weight-saving by paint-scraping, but when it looks this good then I have no complaints. Plus Mercedes have a bit of a free pass as they’ve obviously had the all-black car before. A beauty that I’d love to take to dinner.”

CHARLEY’S RATING: 10/10
DRE’S RATING: 10/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 10/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 10/10

ALPINE A523

Hannah: “The odd one out amongst us all, again! I really like the pink Alpine livery, but not the biggest fan of the blue and pink. It looks nice, but compared to others it’s a six.

CHARLEY’S RATING: 4/10
DRE’S RATING: 3/10
HANNAH’S RATING: 6/10
CIARAN’S RATING: 3/10
