With the world of sportscars heading to Bathurst this weekend, the Aussies in attendance got to see a rare treat as an exhibition – A Formula 1 car on a hot lap around the epic Mount Panorama Circuit!
With Australia’s biggest endurance race, the Bathurst 12 Hour due to start tonight, Red Bull was in town to co-promote the event, and what better way to do that than sending one of their F1 cars around, a luxury normally only experienced in video game form!
Nearly four miles long, super-fast and with barriers super-close, the Bathurst circuit is one of the world’s most demanding racetracks and really does climb a bit of a mountain too.

Red Bull Academy and Formula 2 driver Liam Lawson was the man lucky enough behind the wheel and he was driving an RB7, the same car driven by Sebastian Vettel when he won the 2011 World Championship. It’s not the first time an F1 team’s done a Bathurst demo – Jenson Button still holds the lap record from taking a McLaren round there – but we’re never going to get bored of seeing it happen, so keep them coming.
And as a really cool bonus treat, the clever engineers even managed to make the V8 engine play the Australian National Anthem 🤯
This was popular with the fans!
