It sounds like an April Fool but this is really happening, Red Bull Racing’s Daniil Kvyat and Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen will be swapping seats for the Spanish Grand Prix.
The swap comes after Kvyat’s blunders at his home grand prix in Russia last time out. The Russian hit Sebastian Vettel (in the f**king rear) into Turn 2 and then (in the f**king rear again) at Turn 3 but perhaps worse for Red Bull was that Kvyat’s mistake also cost Daniel Ricciardo any chance of points when his car was damaged in the incident.
Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing Team Principal said, “Max has proven to be an outstanding young talent. His performance at Toro Rosso has been impressive so far and we are pleased to give him the opportunity to drive for Red Bull Racing.
“We are in the unique position to have all four drivers across Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso under long term contracts with Red Bull, so we have the flexibility to move them between the two teams.
“Dany will be able to continue his development at Toro Rosso, in a team that he is familiar with, giving him the chance to regain his form and show his potential.”
Red Bull have both Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso drivers on contract but this is the first time we’ve seen a driver swap between the two teams.
