Jump onboard Kamui Kobayashi‘s Toyota TS050 for a lap of the Bahrain circuit during free practice for the 6 Hours of Bahrain, the final round in this years’ World Endurance Championship.
Even when he’s just lapping on his own everything looks pretty fast, but it’s when he catches up to the GTE cars that really gives the impression of speed. That acceleration never stops being utterly ridiculous.
Even though it was only a practice session the LMP1 cars are already going as fast as they did in qualifying last year, with times likely to get faster still. For comparison LMP1 cars are around five to six seconds slower a lap here than F1 cars in terms of race pace. Considering their extra weight, lower top speed and more durable tyres, that’s pretty impressive!
