It’s Been A Decade Since Michael Schumacher Announced His Retirement

‘But it only feels like four years ago’ OK, so we’re talking about Michael Schumacher’s first retirement here and it’s been a decade since the nine-time world champion announced he’d be leaving the sport at the end of the season.

The news came at the 2006 Italian Grand Prix, after Schumacher had won his 90th race in front of thousands of Ferrari fans. The German made his big announcement in the press conference after the race.

Alongside him was Robert Kubica who’d just achieved his first career podium and McLaren’s Kimi Raikkonen who would be Schumacher’s replacement at Ferrari for the 2007 season.
