The Formula 2 Race In Baku Ended When The Track Got Blocked At Turn 8

Sean Gelael clipped the wall and completely blocked the track, bringing out the red flags and ending the race

It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. The narrowness of the Baku circuit at turns eight and nine is pretty much begging for a track-blocking incident during a race, and that’s exactly what happened in the Formula 2 feature race.

A gaggle of cars were battling in the tail end of the points when, with four laps to go, Sean Gelael thumped into the wall and span across the circuit, completely blocking it for everyone behind him.

The safety car came out in the hope the track could be cleared by the time the leaders got around, but eventually the red flag had to be thrown and the race ended, with Ferrari junior Charles Leclerc winning from McLaren junior Nyck de Vries.

As for Gelael, funnily enough it’s not the first time he’s had a crash in a narrow place. Yup, he was the guy who crashed coming out of the pit lane in Abu Dhabi a couple of years ago.
