The Moment This Upset Young Fan Met Raikkonen Is Up For An Award

Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the 2017 Formula 1 season so far is when Kimi Raikkonen met the young fan who couldn’t stop crying when he crashed out of the Spanish GP.

Raikkonnen clashed with Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen at the first corner and retired from the race. The camera then cut to a young fan crying in the grandstands.

However, the tears soon turned to smiles for six-year-old Thomas, after his family was tracked down by Ferrari and invited into the paddock during the race.

That’s where Thomas got the chance to meet his hero, Raikkonen. The ‘Iceman’ melted hearts with his incredible display of kindness, and his young fan looked delighted by the visit.

Well, that moment is now up for a Laureus Best Sporting Moment Of The Year award, and you can get voting right here.

Its inclusion on the list is hardly surprising. It sparked a huge amount of media attention, probably because we don’t see these kinds of gestures that often.

Well done to Ferrari and Raikkonen for making it happen. We need to see more of this in F1 and sport in general.

Young Thomas looked like he had an amazing time and it was great to see him smiling, so soon after he was caught on camera looking so distraught.
