There Will Be A New F1 Night Race In Saudi Arabia Next Year

It has been speculated over recent weeks, but F1 have now confirmed we will have a Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in November next year.

The street race, which is part of a long-term partnership with Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation and F1, will be hosted along the coastline and will be another night race on the calendar.

“We are excited to welcome Saudi Arabia to Formula 1 for the 2021 season and welcome their announcement following speculation in recent days,” Chase Carey, Chairman and CEO of Formula 1, said.

“Saudi Arabia is a country that is rapidly becoming a hub for sports and entertainment with many major events taking place there in recent years and we are very pleased that Formula 1 will be racing there from next season.”

The full 2021 calendar will be announced in the coming weeks.

  • What happens in a few years if we have a female or openly gay driver on the grid? Will they be allowed to compete? Will it even be safe for them to be in the country?

  • Divyesh Agrawal says:

All the talk about We Race As One and BLM and then they go ahead and arrange a race at Saudi Arabia. I get it, the country is trying to improve its public image, but it should do so by actually changing its policies. This just made me resent it more.

  • I think we have to withhold judgement of the circuit until we get there. But it does demonstrate perfectly what happens when a sport Wade’s into politics. It ends up with double-standards like these.

  • Terrible human rights history in Saudi against women and LGBT. Goes against ‘We Race As One’ campaign in my opinion.
