Formula 3’s trip to Pau is one of the best street racing spectacles around, but when you crash there, it’s going to be a big shunt
The Pau street track is renowned for being one of the trickiest and toughest out there, so it’s understandable F3 drivers will make mistakes and suffer accidents.
However, the barriers at Paul just seem that little bit more unforgiving than other street tracks – as Joey Mawson found out during race one.
He looked on course for a potential first F3 podium when he lost the rear of his car around the fast Parc Beaumont section, in very light rain.
Mawson’s F3 machine slammed into the barrier with quite some force, and Jake Dennis followed him into the wall – albeit a much lighter touch.
Fortunately, the driver seemed to be alright after the shunt but it was a costly mistake and left his team with a lot of damage to repair.
