This Awesome Battle Shows Why Non-Championship Races Need To Be A Thing Again

Although the idea of non-championship races were slowly falling by the wayside by the late 1970s, the ‘Race of Champions’ at Brands Hatch still attracted a decent field of top F1 teams and drivers, as well as several cars competing in the British Aurora F1 series.

The 1979 event was a pretty stonking one too, as Gilles Villeneuve fought with reigning world champion Mario Andretti. Both incredibly tough racers, the two battled hard for the lead of the race.

Ross Brawn has previously said that he wants to bring non-championship races back. On the basis of this, they definitely should be a thing again. Make it happen, Liberty!
