Ever wanted your very own Formula 1 engine? Of course you have, but it’s not like you can just pop out and buy one at your local supermarket. Now’s your chance to get your hands on one though, because this 3.5-litre Mugen-Honda V10 is available for just €10,000.
Unfortunately the advert doesn’t give many details about it, other than the fact that it’s from around 1993 or 1994. That means it was probably used by either the Footwork team (1993) or Lotus (1994), so it’s not exactly got massive amounts of pedigree.
That’s not to say that Mugen Honda engines were bad though. A mainstay of midfield teams throughout the 90s, Ligier won the Monaco GP in 1996 with a Mugen engine, and they also powered Jordan to three victories in 1998 and 1999.
If you want to see and hear one in action, here’s a video of Aguri Suzuki’s Mugen Honda-powered Footwork chasing Ukyo Katayama’s Tyrrell-Yamaha around Suzuka in the ultimate battle for Japanese honour.
So, once you’ve acquired your Mugen Honda engine, what do you do with it? There are a few options. You could maybe use it to power that engine-less F1 showcar that you have sitting on your driveway, or if you’re feeling particularly mad, you could swap it with the engine in your road car.
If it turns out it doesn’t work (which wouldn’t be all that surprising), you could even turn it into a nice coffee table. Perhaps the best use for it however would be to put in in your garage and use it as a tool tr-
OK, so you cant use it as a tool tray. But if you’re interested you can check out the original listing by clicking here.
